NZ2: Christchurch - Oamaru - Dunedin

Hey guys, thanks for all your lovely birthday messages, I really appreciate all your blessings. I don't know how's it gonna be like to be 24, but this is what's fun about, you never know what would happen and life should be full of unpredictable adventure... Just like my trip in New Zealand! Here is a little bit of update for you all!

Christchurch is 85% like England, the buildings, the weather (Cold rain with chilling wind), the trees...etc. It's a beautiful town, especially the Bontanic Garden is very pretty! However, the town is really dead, everything open so late and close so early... To be honest, I don't like the atmosphere here at all.

At night, we went to this Irish pub - Mickey Finn's City, for a drink. This pub is so Christianish, Jesus christ statues everywhere, very dim light with white candle in all tables. Hence, we started to discuss some anti-religion topic. There's a pub band (The Bills) playing, they were really good. All in the sudden, they even played a birthday song to me! I was totally stunned, then Hanna and Lena came out with a card and a bracelace. (I was so keen to buy, but walked away after Jon told me the seashell crisis in Thailand) Yeah, very touched... I was quite emotional this nite. :) Really appreciate all these friends I have.

Yesterday, thank god we left Christchurch the depressing town, I would suicide if we had to stay for one more day. After breakfast, we picked up the Subaru car and raced all the way to Oamaru. To celebrate my birthday, the crew suggested to see the blue penguin, they are the smallest penguin in the world. (averagely 35cm tall; weight 1kg) We didn't see a lot this time, since the male tend to be with the female penguins while they're about to give birth. However, We did see some up close penguin action, they were soooo cute though the staff said they are very aggressive and not really scare of people. It was great fun, too bad they don't let people to take picture, but if you are interested, check out their website: http://www.penguin.co.nz

Next, we reached Dunedin and very happy that we came here instead of stay in Christchurch, it's such a magnificent town, I love it! We picked a slightly expensive hostel, but something really random had happened! In the backpacker pub, I encountered my favorite highschool teacher - Annette Tam! (if u checked my old pic in HK, there's one me and my classmates with her in Dan Ryan!) Haven't see her like decades and never expected to see her here, in this hostel, in this town. Far out...!

Today, we went to see some churches here, all the buildings here are very nice, stunning architecture they have. We were supposed to join the Speight's brewery tour, but it's full. Therefore, we had a Chocolate ale there (taste weird...) and headed to the Cadbury chocolate factory for a tour. The guide looks like an animation, you would think the same if you saw his facial expression... It's amazing to see the giant chocolate waterfall, it's the biggest in the world. Some chocolate splashed out and get to our shirt, of course the only way to clean it is to lick it off. We did that, then the guide said "yeah, this waterfall is just for tourist, no use at all, and we pump all the chocolate up and re-use them again..." Re-used chocolate... Apart from that, we ate so many nice chocolate, it's quite addictive. yummy!!

Tomorrow we will be heading to Te Anau (where the Lord of The Ring is!) and meet up with Jo, our 4th travel partner. It's gonna be kool. Wee~~!! Happy days...

P.S. Dunedin's internet is so bloody expensive!!! :(

NZ1: Sydney - Christchurch

OK, I finally arrived New Zealand, so far everything is pretty kool. So many embarrassing moment on the way, the worst one is they misprinted my title to 'MR'. I thought it's not a big deal, but then I was stopped several by the staff, they were so shocked and went 'Wait! This boarding pass is for Mister!' and once they found out my passport name is as same as the boarding pass, they just went silent and let me go. I tried to explain that was a misprint, but seems they are more convinced by the presumption that I am a transvesite... bloody hell!

Went to the X-ray section, I was checked by this lady with a name tab 'HARDEEP' on her chest, sounds quite erotic indeed, but she looks so serious as if some macho soccor couch. Ms. Hardeep was so shocked when she see a X-Box came out from the Xray machine and asked if that's mine. Ending up a dude came up and claimed his 'portable game device' back, some travellers really know how to entertain themselves... Ms. Hardeep didn't laugh at all, whereas I was giggling aside.

Finally I arrived Christchurch, though it would be nice to buy a calling card to reach my mum and let her know that I'm safe here. Bought a $10 card and realised they surcharge everything, fucking pissed me off. Fine! I tried to find a phone booth to make the call, but life just isn't that easy... None of the phone booth are coins available! fucking A!!! and I was stupid enough to get a $5 local phone card, then thought I can finally reach mom. Nope, somehow they didn't let me to connect mobile... why everything has to be so difficult??? hate the motherfucking phone system here.

OK, enough whining. I promise I will have fun. xoxo :)

A Moment Of Celebrity

Went to see Watussi at the Basement last night, this venue was surprisingly very pack. (as I got some negative comment about them) First impression was ozomatli meets kid confucius with a touch of boyband vocal!? someone said Watussi is some latin music that won't sell a buck in South America, I don't know about that, but they made a lot of butts shaking last night. The gay man who's sitting in front of me was kept shouting "I love WATUSSI! I love WATUSSI!!!!" Jeez some crazy fans here, don't have to shout tho...

It is totally funky latin pop, I won't say it's hip hop at all, they did rap, but nope, not hip hop. Doesn't mean that they are bad~! They got excellent instrumental players, good beat with a funk style. Although we didn't rock down to the dance floor, I really had a great night.

Anyway, on my way back home, four North Shore boys skateboard their way to me and asked me to send a txt message for them. So I helped them out, but eventually they began to realise I'm the trashbag girl in the Cat paper and started getting so excited that they were talking to someone who's in FBi. (mann, I'm not even a famous DJ...) They kept shaking my hands and even took some pictures with me, I just wanna go home coz my feet were freezing. We talked on the street for almost an hour before they let me go, they were very nice kids tho. Oh well.

An Extract Of A Joyous Letter

...Last thursday we did a little adventurous "amazing race" in sydney which I have never done before.

After a great big breakfast in Newtown, we took a ferry to a random hidden place called Cremore point, it's where those super rich people live. Flamboyant architectures with beautiful garden and old school european fountains. Far out, I was thinking to kidnap one of the kids there and hold for a ransom!!

Then we took the ferry again to Mosman, which is only 2 min across the habour but we just couldn't be bother to swim there. Another beautiful suburb, first thing that you noticed in this place is the shops, 95% of the shops have a French name, even domino has changed to dominioque. And a chinese retaurtant has a name like j'aime le god damn chinoise or something like that. amazed me.

We took a bus to Manly Beach, we did a wonderful walk up to the hill, watched the sunset and had the delicious fish and chips (fried oyster and calamari rule!). Had a beer and a pool game, then we just head home for good. Was absolutely a fun day, despite my legs were totally sored the next day...

one love, fayske xo

P.S. thanks Billy the jelly~, you are the best. :) xo
P.P.S. people who got the original letter, please forgive my mistypo, i typed it 3am while i was sleeping. [note added 17/7/05 12pm]

Macho Versus Your Own Skin

I've come across so many male in my life, from strangers to a close one; young and old; straight and gay; tall and short; fat and thin... Most of them have a problematic perception about skin care, you didn't get it wrong, even gay men have a wrong concept about it. Why? because they are being so damn macho, think ignoring their skin is so kool and attractive that can score lots of chica/chico. 'Men don't use skin product, that's for chicks' is usually what I would heard after giving out a suggestion of skin care. Dude, I don't hate you as a macho man, but what kind of excuse is that? It doesn't even make sense.

I am not here to strike the masculinity and support feminism, since I'm not interested in this issue here. Help is what I wanna do, so listen up, having a good skin care won't make you become a homosexual/ a woman, but a better looking gentleman. I'm doing you a favor to help, if you don't give a shit coz you have big balls, I do you a favor to let you go on your lonely macho life. OK, I don't wanna go too harsh, coz I consider you, who reading this, are a good friend of mine.

Rashes, Acne problem, oily skin, big pores, skin peeling...etc. are most of the men skin problems. Why? coz you didn't clean your skin right, here are the general problem that you might have:

Rub your face - some girls do that too, but big mistake! rubbing your face will create big pores that cause oily face, blackheads and even wrinkles. Even using scrub cleanser, you don't rub! you use your finger tips to GENTLE massage it. (Gentle like moving your fingers on your face without seeing your face skin moving up and down dramatically)

Use water only - OK, you think water is pure, huh? think about those chemical in the water, why the government spent so much money on filtering water and suggest boiling water? By the way, you think water can really clean those dirt inside your skin pores? PH 5.5 doesn't mean it can clean your skin, it means that water doesn't dry your skin too much.

Using body soap - I know I know, there are millions of skin products in the shop, and busy man like you just can't be bother to look at them. But think about it, why are they so specific to have body soap and facial product? coz they are different! why do they have so many kind of cleansers? coz they are different! Now imagine using shampoo to clean your skin, you are basically doing this on your face now.

No toner, no cream - cleansing, toner and cream is the golden 3 steps of skin care, you did the first step, might no even in a proper way, and you totally neglect the 2nd as well as the 3rd steps, now stop whining your mom inherited you bad skin.

BASIC 3 STEPS OF SKIN CARE

I know you don't like to spend too much time on your face, but at least stick with these 3 steps, just THREE, take you only 3 mins! Here I help you to choose the right product easily.

Most of the men have oily face, I used to have oily face too. But I was wrong thinking I have oily type of skin, usually (esp cases in Australia) is because of DRY weather. Dry skin creates oil to moisturize itself, then oil becomes dirt, which your skin can get infected and form pimples/blackheads.

Step 1. Cleansing: To remove dirt from your face. I like to use nourishing cleanser in winter and deep skin cleanser in summer. If you don't know what product to choose, they have cleanser for men, start with it. If you wanna use Scrub cleanser, it is important to only use it 1-2 per week.

Step 2. Toner: To wipe off the remained dirt, to refine skin pores and to balance your skin tone (back to PH 5.5=water=purify). Skip it if you think it's not important at all, but I won't if I were you. bigger pores = bad oily skin = more dirt, so refining pores give you better skin. If you ar using a cheap cleansing product/ body soap, it could make your skin go dry, toner is to insert water inside your skin before you moisturize your skin by cream. Use non-alcohol toner please.

Step 3. Facial Cream: To moisturize your dry skin. This is a very important step that many men just literally omit it. Look, keep it simple, get the Nivea Men Cream, put it on every morning and before sleep. avoid eyes area (or you will get greasy spot). If you are more fuzzy and would like to take more time for this step, good on you, read the next paragragh, otherwise just skip it.

You may notice there're day cream and nite cream in the market. Day cream is usually to protect your from the sun while moisturizing your skin, and not too greasy in case it clogs the pores when you sweat. Night cream is to recover your skin's elasticity and firmness, it's more nourishing coz skin can absorb it better while you're asleep. My personally opinion - Don't get greasy cream, use something waterish but deeply moisturizing. Our skin needs water back in, not oil.

Don't say I didn't warn you. Sun is not really skin-friendly. Not that you shouldn't get some nice sunshine, but it can damage your skin structure (collagen breakdown) and dry out your skin. You think asian's skin look so young, coz they don't stay under the sun all day, also they put SUNBLOCK. Sunblock always being misunderstood that it's for people who like pale skin, actually you will still get your tan if you choose a lower SPF sunblock. Sunblock can protect your skin structure by blocking out strong UVA and UVB. If you are a Mr. surfer, get the waterproof one.

OK, here is the main part for all the men, Shaving. Shaving balm is nescessary because when you shave, the blade just scratch through your face, if you scratch your hand, it goes white (aka. dry), and you do know that your face skin is more sensitive than your hand skin, don't ya? That's why it can hurt you when you shave.

Two shaving tips just for you amigo:

1. shaving skill: DO NOT pull your razor all the way down to the chin, I know you are so macho and so busy, but that can cut your face in any second (have you seen 'Face-Off'?). Do me a favor, shave it bit by bit.

2. shave after shower: This HELPS when shaving is so mothefucking hurt to you, because it softens your mustache as well as expand the pores.

Other tips for your macho skin: Drink more water is good too, 8 glasses per day if you can. Plus, good diet and good sleep help you acquire a better skin for sure. So don't be like me, staying up here so late just to watch the Wayne Brady show.

Now I can go to sleep... Good Night.

Steaming Steady

Went to see Faker's Album Launch at Annandale hotel after FBi, thanks millions Jackshit for helping me to get in. Far out! The show was totally sold out and I was told all each band can only have one guest, how harsh!? I was expecting the worst, which is do nothing and just talk shit with Bill. But hey hey!!! Simon got me and Bill in as a VIP (Free booze, woohoo!), and it was a very good show, god it turned sleepy fayske to a dancing malfunction trashbag!

The Spark and The Expatiate were supporting last night, both were doing quite well with different level of satisfaction. To describe these two band, The Spark - I will say it sounds quite like Keane with a passionate Irish Spirit; whereas The Expatiate was more like a rock version of The Cure. If you had never heard of Faker, they are kinda like bridge of Kaiser Chiefs and Rocket Science.

We saw some dude were dancing like crazy, straightly recalls Dave Chappelle's Show - about white people dancing. I was, too, getting quite excited, regardless how tired I was before. (Imagine this - Thur: Allnighter 2-6am, Grooverider at night til 2am; Fri: Lezel farewell breakfast at 9:30am, FBi all day, Faker at night.)

If you wanna know how was Grooverider, I guess Bill has a better opinion than me :)
check out his In The Mix review:
http://www.inthemix.com.au/reviews/events/21780/

I got put up on an extra show, which is gonna be on tonite (Sunday morning 3-7am). This time I have a new girl Cassandra coming in with me, it's gonna be great. Anyway, buzz us for a wicked request - 83322999.

P.S. Deeply sorry Leo, Lena and Cappelle. I apologized for ditching the win trip today, I just so desperated for some good sleep.

Indie Trashbag Is So Hot Right Now!

OK, for those who came up after you've read the Cat Magazine and wanna know how trashbag I am. Me, Fay with the Chan, is very proud to be misunderstood as a girl who have 'minor social standing but more importantly several public displays of overtly mashy behavior. Ten-hour drinking binges, dancefloor malfunctions and snorting copious amounts of blow.' (Cat) Thank you.

Now, it's about god damn time to stuff you all up with all the movies and gigs and shit that I have seen and done. Last post I said 3 movies and a gig, but now it has already been expanded to 5 flicks and 2 gigs.

Movie 1: Madagascar

Oh it's funny. I'm really entertained by this wacky animation, all the characters are very interesting, but my favorite character is the penguin crew for sure. What's interesting about this movie is how it can be conceived in different way. Kids can have fun watching it, grown-up have a further understanding of the jokes with different references. Well done! This is probably the best animation I have ever seen so far, Nemo can go home. [5 out of 5] touchdown!

Movie 2: Bukowski - Born Into This

This is a documentary about the life of Charles Bukowski, the famous novelist in 70's but also is a serious alcoholic. He writes really good stuff, but also a very self-centred person, living in poverty, violence and yea, alcohol again. Sometimes I do believe that only being self-centred can really write something original.

I really like one of the poem that it mentioned, as follows:

Oh Yes

there are worse things than
being alone
but it often takes decades
to realize this
and most often
when you do
it's too late
and there's nothing worse
than
too late.

Charles Bukowski

Bukowski really reminds me what I have been struggling last month (it's gonna be in my whole life actually) - receptivity vs creativity. Can't they just be fucking co-existed? Anyway, back to the movie, it does depict another side of the world of what Bukowski really is. [4 out of 5]

Movie 3: Batman Begins

I finally understand why Levins was so excited about batman when he saw me after the movie. It is the best batman serie for sure, kick away the bulky love romantic crap shit poo. No homo Robin, no sluty Catwoman, nothing too gimmick. I do have to admit that the ninja scene was a bit annoyed me, since I hate hot western people try to worship the ninjaism and samuraism when they don't know shit about it. (fucking hate last samurai) But I can see the reason why they want to relate ninja with batman. (in case you are too dumb to get it, hiding in the dark, dah!)

Christian Bale is a good actor, but doesn't look good in the batman suit. Sorry, you are not then you are not. I prefer seeing him in machinist and american psycho. But I'm very very happy to see Gary Oldman, he is the legend. [4 out of 5]

Movie 4: Oyster Farmer

This is a very charming Australianish film with a touch of good humor, though some part of the story seems a bit strange. (like robbing a fish market by using a frozen lobster and cover up with fruit roll-ups wrap) Really love the scenery, very beautiful and poetic. But what is going on with that background music? Since when Australia sounds so Irish? I wonder if that is part of the humor as well... [4.5 out of 5]

Movie 5: Tarnation

I was absolutely stunned by this movie. Jonathan is definitely incredible, since he started filming himself at 4 and using film to sketch out his life in this broken family. Interesting fact is that this film cost $217, a very low budget film with a very good message in a person. This is one of my favourite indie movie.

“I’ve loved films since age four, but it was never just for fun. Filming things had a critical life-and-death purpose. It was always a defence mechanism and a way to have a sense of control over my life. Filming was also a way to control and defend myself against my environment and disassociate myself from the horrors around me. I’ve wanted to be a filmmaker since I can remember, and filmmaking definitely saved my life.” (Jonathan Caouette)

This film makes me think of my ex-best friend and my grandmother. [5 out of 5] touchdown!

Gig 1: The Mess Hall with Whirlwind Heat at Gaelic Club

If you are not familiar with Whirlwind Heat, listen to Four Track, they use one of their song "uptight" as they show's theme song! Anyway, this band has a lot of action on the stage, from crazy dancing to torn off a Tshirt. you name it.

The Mess hall was really good that nite, good drum, good guitar. I really enjoy it, except some songs that sounds too typical Oz pop-rock. (sounds a bit too spiderbait, sorry not a big fan)

Gig 2: End Of Fashion with The Spark at @Newtown

Far out, it was a very good show! I really enjoy seeing The Spark and End Of Fashion, except this band Tanbalame or something like that. It is formed by a ex-silverchair member who I don't really care, coz it sounds so boring and trying too hard to impress me. The Spark was absolutely grat tho, I'm very amazed that they have just been out for like a month and two, yet is already supporting bands like End of Fashion, Faker and Bravery. KOOL!

To Shane: Love the email, keep coming and kiss chrisse for me! Enjoy Santiago!

P.S. Allnighter tonite 2-6am, feed me up with request!
